Christina
Schou
Christensen

Born and raised on the island of Bornholm, Denmark, Christina Schou Christensen grew up surrounded by the materials that would later become the foundation of her artistic practice. With clay, granite, and ceramic production as part of her everyday surroundings, she developed an early curiosity about the transformation of raw materials through craftsmanship, heat, and time.

Today, she lives and works on Bornholm, where she explores the relationship between clay, glazes, and the unpredictable processes that take place inside the kiln. Her practice is rooted in experimentation and a deep fascination with the behaviour of ceramic materials — especially the way glaze transforms from a liquid surface into a sculptural, form-giving element under extreme temperatures.
Working with glaze viscosity and movement, Christina develops methods where the final expression is not fully predetermined. Instead, the kiln becomes an active collaborator, allowing heat and material reactions to shape the final outcome. Each piece is the result of extensive experiments, through which she investigates the possibilities and limits of ceramic materials.

Alongside her artistic practice, Christina has developed experimental approaches to glaze development and teaches within the field of ceramics and material exploration. Her ongoing research also focuses on sustainability, transforming high-fired waste materials into new clay bodies and glazes, creating new possibilities for circular ceramic practices.
